I went for special registration earlier today in San Jose. The wait was 2.5 hours and the interview process took 45 minutes. the officer told me that I chose a bad day because the computer was down for 45 minutes in the morning.I went around 9am and was out by 12pm.
I have AOS pending and working on EAD. The officer was very polite and asked very general questions like, where do you work and stuff?
He took picture and fingerprint and wrote down fin# on I94. It was a very pleasant experince except the wait!
While he was working on my case,I overheard that he issued a NTA for another registrant because he had status problem but they are not detaining people anymore. He was let go with NTA( Notice to appear before a judge at a later date).
My advice to everyone, donot volunteer any extra info unless they ask for it and be specific and consistent with your answers.
Good luck!

Special Registartion

Why did you go for special registartion when I-485 is not approved?. What is the purpose, can you please give details.Even I-485 is pending, not approved yet.

Who need to register? My attorney said nothing to us. I was out of status for more then 5 years. LC started 1/5/98. Approved 2.5 years later, I-140 took another 2 years. 1-485 submitted 6/2002 (Yes, 4.5 years, and counting). Do you have any idea what is my “priority date” (Does not look like it is a priority for anyone anyway)

Sorry for the confusion!

if you are from certain muslim countries then you have to register yourself at local INS.Please ignore this message if you are not from those countries. You can find the list of countries on the BCIS website.
