My I-485 was approved after interview at San Jose on Aug 10, 2004, and passport stamped on the same day.

The online status shows:
On August 23, 2004, your I485 Application to Register Permanent Residence or to Adjust Status was received here for processing. It is taking between 660 and 660 days for us to process this kind of case. We will mail you a decision as soon as processing is complete.

I guess the temptation to make people wait 660 days proved too great :D
They never give up trying, do they?

:) Hopefully you should be getting the card in the next 3-4 weeks. But having gotten out of their clutches, in my opinion INS can blow smoke up its ass for 660 days for all we care.

Actually, 140, it could be a little more complicated than that... :(

What if San Jose returned the files to WSC with the I-89s inside, and someone waits 660 days to find out that they should be "completing" , ordering and mailing cards? :D

Wonder if any earlier interviwees observed this sort of message?

Instead of scaring applicants with estimated number of days..., USCIS has to learn from India. "Kal ho jaa ye gaa" (Tomorrow it will be done). Eventhough tomorrow never comes..., we can still live with hope rather than counting 660 days!!!

Don't see why that should matter. Until the cows come home you are set and ready to rock and roll. The only problem as I see it is if you decide to travel to another country, and they don't understand the I551 stamp or don't accept it.

But if that is not the case, then even if you have to go for stamping again, with the new infopass system, the pain is slight and an added burden on their resources.

Once again though, going by past accounts, applicants who got their stamps at SJC should be hearing from INS very shortly. :)

atleast USCIS has a specific number of days mentioned in this case 660 even though it is not put on stone and hence will definitely change either way.

But with India, "KAL HO JAYEGA" - "TOMORROW IT WILL BE DONE" is actually more painful I think because we don't know which tomorrow they are talking.

Ultimately both the above amount to the same, pain, pain and more pain.

140, I could use my United Mileage Plus Miles for an immediate free trip to Switzerland, which does not require a GC holder to have a visa. But, they don't recognize the 551 stamp :(

Grrrr....

Same here,

Approved 1 week after interview. Passport stamped a week later. On August 9, Online message changed to

I am also wondering if case is transferred back to the service center.

Well atleast you guys got that message, for me, my case goes missing every morning when I try to see if there is any update, and every evening it comes back with the same old message. And it is not just my 485 case, it is all cases in my portfolio. :(

Niladri,

You know you can't even get a swiss visa since you have no travel documents any more other than 551 which they don't recognize? :) Blow INS!
