good saint she does, infact she said on TV she visits India atleast once every two years and has close ties with India and Indians. Her whole family mothers side is in India . The reason why its exciting is if and when people like you become citizens she and the likes of Bobby Jindal are examples to follow. Once we have more say in Public offices it can only be beneficial.

The discussion was going well till you bought Bobby Jindal into the picture. The guy is so conservative, that he puts republicans like Donald Rumsfield to shame. And the immigration community expects help from people like this?
I have to go with goodsaint on this one, Indians read a little too much into these these things. I say good for Harris, and Khatri (wonder how he plans to help immigrants considering he works with the INS now). But don't expect us to break out the sweets or light cigars just because they got elected, slected or nominated. Big DEAL!
As far as 1amShantanuB is concerned, he is on almost everyone's ignore/idiot list, so doesn't matter what he says/thinks.

Daughter of Dr Shyamala Gopalan(India), who is a renowned breast cancer specialist and Donald Harris, an African American (Caribbean ?), who later became a Stanford economics professor.
There were no questions about her antecedents as in the case of Jindal, as she is the daughter of the soil, by any measurement.
It is amusing to see the Bay Area newspapers refer to the new DA as of "African American origin" and the Asian news coverage refer to her as "Indian American".
Both are right....
