SPAM: Changing Employer immediately after GC stamping

I got my Passport stamping for GC on 04/18th. Now I am thinking of changing the employer.

But I have apprehensions about the following obvious things…

1. Can the old Employer notify INS and will that affect my GC? Can INS revoke / some thing to it?
2. Any thing else is possible down the time? I heard my attorney and other folks saying that there could be issues in GC renewal and Citizen Ship process.
3. Will there be any thing else that could be affected?

Did any one try this? Please advice.

Thanks in advance.

Over2years,

while there is no requirement in the law to stay for a certain period of time with your sponsoring employer, it is true that changing jobs the week after the approval most likely to pose a problem with GC renewal or Citizenship. It is also correct that your GC can be revoked at any time, if INS believes that it was obtained through misrepresentation of information and fraud (same goes for Citizenship, by the way).

The generally accepted minimum safe period you have to stay with the sponsoring employer is around 6 months. It would somewhat prove that you had the intention to be employed "permanently" with the sponsoring employer, if there's anybody to ask.

Interestingly if you had changed your job a couple of days before your approval, you would have been covered under AC21. Unfortunately that doesn't hold for you.

While some people have changed jobs immediately, we really can't say what will happen to them when it comes time for them to renew their GC's or apply for citizenship.

I would play it safe if I were you and wait 6 months atleast. if not more.

but what happens if company has been take over by the new company and you get laid off.

In that case what are we supposed to do.
