I need some urgent help and would be really grateful!
I got my F1 visa stamped this May and came to US this August for my MBA studies. Today, I went to collect my State ID and came to realize that there are some serious mistakes in there.
I have 3 names which are usually printed in random orders. But over the last few years, I have tried to maintain it under First Name, Middle Name and Surname categories. Before I came to the US, I had to update my marital status and hence got my passport updated. However, the passport officials chose to take all the 3 names as my Given Names & kept my Surname space on the main sheet empty. I didnt think this would be a problem I went ahead & got my Visa!
Then, the visa people chose to interpret this in their own way and mistakingly printed my actual first name as my surname & other 2 as my given names. With the amount of running around I had to do for all these, I just ignored this. I know a mistake. At the immigration, I had no problems whatsoever.
Today however, I was denied the State ID as my visa name doesnt match the I20 and Sevis & other docs. So, this kinda totally set me aback! I would like all your advice on these qs...
1) Can I change the way my name has appeared on the visa? But How, considering that even my passpost name is not really in 'right' order?
2) So, if the above cannot be done, should I reapply for a new passport here in NY or DC? Can they help me with my visa issue too?
3) Or should I take a new passport from here, go to India for a new stamping? I am half way thro my FY studies & this really looks not so doable at this point?!
