I am planning an overseas trip in December.
My son's U.S passport expires in November. I was looking at the website http://travel.state.gov/get_forms.html for renewing his passport.
According to the information posted, it seems that you cannot really renew a passport unless you are 16 or over. I am a little confused. Even though, he already has a previously issued passport, but I cannot use the passport renewal application for him. I must use a different application for the first time passports, as if I was applying for his passport the very first time.
So if any of you are familiar with the form names, I must use form DS-11 (http://travel.state.gov/DS-0011.pdf), the first-time application form instead of Form DS-82 (http://travel.state.gov/DS-0082.pdf), the renewal form.
If you have been there and done that, please share so I know I am not totally off base here.
