SOMEONE PLEASE CLARIFY: Updating Social Security Card after PP stamping

Hi All,
I did my passport stamping in May. Recently I was talking to some friend and he mentioned that we have to order new social security cards after PP stamping. Is that true? His point was that the current social security card has restriction that says \'Work with INS authorization\' for me and \'Not valid for work\' for my wife. The new social security card would not have that restriction.
If all this is true then is there a particular Social Security office that we have to go to or it can be done anywhere? I live in the South Bay Area.

Thanks,

Hi Serenity,
You can go to the local social sec office and show your stamped passports
and they will do the rest. I heard this from a friend. usually people who got stamped
go to ssn office on the same day after stamping.

If your social security card has a stamp indicating
employment restrictions, you should definitely go
to a social security office to have the stamp removed.

For those who came to US in early 90 have no such
problem. We all got a card with no restrictions.

Thanks Ciba and Vaiki
I\'ll try to walk into the SS office near my home and see if they can make a new card without the restrictions.

Why you worry about the stamp. Just show your EAD along with your sscard. I don\'t think you are eligible to get no restriction SS card unless you get your green card or AOS approved. Before approval you are needed EAD from INS means you are seeking approval from INS to work.

ND,

SerenityNow\'s case was approved long time ago. He was asking
whether or not one needs to renew social security card after
I-485 approval.
