mine is set on 4/19/06, read through the board and requirments for supporting docs, there are something I have to point out,
1. my wife doesn't have D/L, only permit, she takes bus to work everyday, also it is pretty hard to have two cars in NYC. I didn't add her name on my car insurance, do u guys think it will be a problem?
2. my wife and I current are renting a place, the utilities (gas and elec are included, those are stated on the lease already) how am i suppose to add my name and her name on the utilities bill? but we do have phone bill which have our both name on it. what should i do?
3. we both have our own individual healthy insurance, I asked my boss whether I can put my wife as a dependent, the boss said, "ur wife doesn't have healthy insurance? " I said, "Ye, she does, but i just want to know whether i can add her name on." boss said, "i don't htink that will be a problem, but u have to pay probly $270 more every month, if she does have one, why bother to add her on urs?" no words. you guys think we have our individual healthy insurnce will be a problem during the interview. my lawyer suggested to buy life insurnce (short term one, paid by monthly, no long-term obligations, but i have no idea where to buy, any suggestions?)

the supporting doc we have now are:
photoes
share verizon phone bills
lease has both names on
some her and my mail at same address
my pay stub
my employe letter (boss said he will write one for me)
joint tax returens (IRS) (i will order past two years around Jan)
my I-20s
medical exame (will do it around Feb)
joint bank account

overall, i just think some of the supporting docs are pointless, but I have to think somehow to get them in order to prove the marriage, man, what a pain process.

Thanks for your help

On your joint account, make sure there are transactions from both of you. They want to see if both of you actively using it or not. You can get life insurance for cheap on the internet.

More evidences are get some letters from your church (if you go to one) or from her and your parents stating that you have been together.

I know she doesn't have DL but make sure she has some form of picture ID for the interview.

Apply credit card and add her as additional account.

how can i show the transactions are from both of us? we have shared checking account, we normally pay out rents,. I am the one writes out checks, she has her own credit card,. When we do thing on our own, we paid seperately. of course we buy things together, we will pay from our joint checking account. is that going to be a problem?

ye, we will try to get letters from both sides. my parnets don't speak english at all, hmm

she has her passport, is that ok? she also will bring her birth certificate

Apply credit card and add her as additional account.

I remember someone on this board said the shared credit card isn't big deal, the joint account is even more important

thanks for your advices.

Well the thing is that depends in the officer and how s/he looks at things even now that I see your timeline..you are married over 2 years.
I know that can look pretty silly since when you got married you don't really need to put all things together actually make things more complicated in my personal opinion BUT that is the way they see things.

1.When he says about transactions means both are signing (one month you, the next one your spouse, so on...). But I don't see any problem if both are in the account.
2. If you have a letter that is not in English you can translate and notarize it.
3. Check that her passport is still valid. She anyway most bring her passport to the interview. The alien is her or you?

Don't worry about the utility bills if you have a lease in both names.

thank you so much for your opinion. getting married doesn't mean that we have to share everything, i mean, we still have our own lives. she still hangs out with her friends, and i do have my owns. I guess i have to get something started for sharing. anyways....

what r u guys buying life insurance from? i have been googling around on the ineternet, didn't find anything very productive. by the way, i am in new york.

thanks all, have a good night

ha-ha-ha! I see you have not realized that the INS is apart of your marriage. You really do have to think about them in everything you do. It might be normal for you and me, but we have to consider them.

DL doesn't matter- she can't be on your car insurance if she doesn't have one. They don't really care if you drive or not-they're checking to see if addresses match for both parties.

Take some junk mail with you. Do you have a 401K? Is she listed as the beneficiary? Take at least 4 months worth of bills, statements etc.

The good thing is that you are getting the FP done before the interview and not after. They should not have the "pending fingerprints" excuse.

Good luck!

sheracar, my company used to have 401k, but it got cut last year, since the economy, etc... now only offer healthy and some part of dental, not as good as before, howeverm still better than nothing.
i think i am just going to get term by term life insurance, and put her name as benificinary, hope this one will work fine. take time to find one, i need to get started even the interview is almost half year away

thanks for it, best wish to u all
