Social Security Card

Hi everyone,

Does anyone have an idea how long it will take to receive a social security card? My husband received his EAD on a Saturday, went to the SS office on Tuesday...and it has been 2 weeks and we have not received anything yet.

He already has a SS# from working here a few years ago. Of course, he cannot remember the # and has no way of finding it out.

I know that they will use the same number---but when will we get the card so he can properly fill out his I-9?

Help!

Thanks

If SS office is not too far & crowded, I will go personally & check it. I happened to my wife, when we haven't received it within a 3 weeks, we visited the local office & they took new application and got new in 3 days.

I'm in the same boat...

I got my EAD on August 22 and went to SSA on the following day and it has been 2 weeks already. I read again the letter that SSA personnel gave and it says there it will take about 4 weeks to check/verify with USCIS the dox I submitted. I'm not quite sure if it's gonna take that long coz from what I've heard 2-3 is the average processing... Let's keep our fingers crossed. ;)

Some SSA offices check already your authorization to work with USCIS database and you must wait several hours the same day (1-2 hours) then you get call and get your receipt, it is worth it since you don't have to wait for many weeks to received the actual card even the next labor day you can go back to the SSA office and they give you a receipt or letter with your name and SSN on it.

But yes, what you said (anneu) it was explained to me at the customer service of the SSA. The person told me that if the SSA office don't make a check there then normally the person most wait 6-8 weeks to get the number and then another week for the actual card. Don't know why not all the offices are doing the same, but fortunately the one I went all the officers were doing the same thing.
