Skilled trades in immigration

I'd appreciate any and all insight on this; Maybe I'm just missing something, but I have gone over it all too many times.

Is there any specific way to go about immigrating via having your papers in a skilled trade? The only way I've been able to find is through an H2B which is said to be temporary in nature and not easy to get at all...The TN visa does me no good even though I'm a Canadian citizen - With the red seal/certificate and 6 years experience in carpentry, is there any possible way for me to legitimately become a permanent resident in the US?

I would have expected it to be easier since skilled trades are in such high demad, but maybe not..

Thanks!

The Greencard category would be EB3, SKilled Workers.
However, there currently is a backlog for EB3. See the current Visa Bulletin: http://travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/bulletin/bulletin_1360.html
The employer would also have to show that they can't find an American who can and is willing to do the job.

Thank you for the prompt reply...I'm going to read up on it now - It's odd though, how I never even came across such a visa all the time I searched before..Sounds promising thus far though!

Thanks again,
Mark
