simultaneous U.S./Canada PR

I have seen several posts on this forum on obtaining Canadian PR after getting U.S. permanent residency. Opinions seem to vary between:

• No problem in getting the Canadian PR after getting the green card. Maintaining both may be a problem long term but there is no issue with re-entering the U.S.
• It is risky to maintain both. Withdraw Canadian PR once the GC is approved.

I am a green card holder and got my Canadian PR passport request. I am debating between going for it and withdrawing.

I know there are a few members in this forum who have obtained Canadian PR after getting the green card. Can some of you share your longer term experience? Have you been on any international trip after landing in Canada? Has any subsequent entry to the U.S. been problematic? Did you encounter any hurdles when applying for U.S. citizenship?

I would especially like to hear from those who have encountered problems. Did you have to give up one or the other residency on the spot? Were you put in removal proceedings (first stage of revoking the green card)? If you were, what happened next?

I understand that individual experiences vary. I understand that having both residencies is frowned upon by some members. But being single while being a green card holder is tough and I would like to explore options.

I consulted a few immigration attorneys and most of them said that accepting Canadian PR after getting the GC is risky. Those who have done it are running the risk of being confronted each time they cross the border into the U.S. If your luck runs out, you will be questioned by a port of entry officer who may place you in removal.

Based on this advice, I have withdrawn my application for Canadian PR. I have sent a letter to the Consulate informing them of my withdrawal and requesting a refund of the Right of PR fee.
