Sick Mother on Green Card -- Unable to travel within 180 days

My parents left the country about 150 days ago and they were supposed to come back before the expiry of the 180 day period. Unfortunately my mother is very sick and only father is there to take care of her. Can you please suggest if they can't make it within 180 days, is there a form we can submit to USCIS informing about their extended stay and ask for a one time waiver?

They don't have advance parole document.

They were supposed to complete the 5 year period on their green card within the next 6 months and we were planning to apply for their citizenship.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

There is no "180 day period". The green card is valid for re-entry after an absence of less than 1 year.

Thanks for your reply. My parents used to stay here for 6 months and return to India for 6 months in the last 4 years. They never overstayed abroad over a period of 180 days. Once the immigration officer at the airport had told them they can't do that if they want to keep their GC. I am concerned if they will not be allowed to come back if they overstay more than 180 days this time. They would have been eligible for citizenship this year . My mom is very sick and my father needs to stay with her to ensure she recovers before travel. They have confirmed tickets for US . Can someone please suggest how can be show the USCIS their intent not to overstay ? Is there any form on USCIS site that we can submit requesting an overstay?

Thanks much!

There is nothing to do now. Just have evidence of her maintaining ties to the US (having filed US tax returns, her family being in the US, her maintaining a home in the US, her reason for being away was a temporary one, etc.) when she comes back.
