Should we try the white house ??

Frankly speaking, since Eduardo talks about Bush in all his speeches and the fact that Bush has allocated 500million $ to improving the immigration process, I think that we should write to the white house explaining our case. Bush has agreed to it, and we can quote Eduardo on it. Bush is the only guy who can change this, quickly.

Refer to his earlier speech that talks about 500 million dollars from Bush.

This might look like a lot, but we are talking about a genuine problem, that the president has promised to help us with.

What say you guys ?

In my understanding, Bush might have promised to allocate $500M once before, but Bush has no money to allocate to the USCIS now, because of wasting $2B per week in Iraq.
Bush should be or has been already terminated.

Good point Kashmir.
The question is this:
Has the money been allocated or not ?. If it has been then it is better to write to the White House, as Bush would love to see the money being utilized. If not we pray ?

Well thought Sai

I believe President is sincere in his commitment, but overwhelmed with Iraq and domestic criticism inspired by political opponents. We need to understand the past events and couple of wars in the foreign land too. Hey nothing wrong in approaching big guy.
Big minds have better attitudes. Take initiative.
:)

Good Idea.

Should proceed soon, because by end of this year, they get into election mode.

Money doesn't really matter

It is all matter of escalation and priority.
If President will decide that it is taking too long to approve 485 and will tell this to BCIS, they will just run a batch job overnight which will approve all cases :)

The only problem here is that he must decide that he is interested in escalating this issue.

How about this:

1. we have 1 mln pending 485 cases (not sure about exact number though)
2. each applicant has $50K in savings, which are not touched because of anxiety
3. now all cases are approved and each applicant spends his savings on mortgages, cars, home improvement etc
4. so we have extra $50 bln released into the US economy
5. US economy is 10 trln, so 50 bln are 0.5%

So Bush will get 0.5% GDP growth by just approving all 485 cases!
And this will happen right before elections!
Only an idiot will miss such opportunity!

I don't think so.
It takes a half hour to adjudicate one I-485 case.
Even for just not growing the backlog, 15 officers must be allocated at the CSC, and maybe at least 25 officers at the VSC.
The current Bush Administration can not do that.

Also, Ashcroft had made a crazy order to the legacy INS,
then 12 out of 15 officers at the CSC have been taken away from I-485 processing, as well as at the VSC.

CONTACTS

Hello guys,

President Bush is a fair game. before contacting him (chances are he will never read our letter/petition) we have some more solid leads.

1: DOJ AG Ashcroft.
2: GAO.. Congress Accounting Office.
3: Companies....List started somehow.
4: Organizations.. immigrant advocates..(AILA reference).
5: Religious leaders (Catholic, Jewish, Hindu, Moslem, etc).
6: Think tanks..influential(Cato, Heritage, CIS, Immigration Policy Institute, etc).
7: Congress/Senate..working
8: Professional Organisations (IEEE, etc)
9: Universities.

Guys,
It is your decision whether to contact Bush or not.
But let's look at it this way. What do we have to loose. After all we are just politely reminding him of his promise . We are not asking him to change policies or get approval from congress. This promise was already made by him, and Eduardo quotes him everytime.
The worst thing is that he might not answer. Personally, I have seen that it is only people with authority who can make quick decisions.
Let us wait for a few more days, to see how Oct. starts, and then you all can make a decision on this.

As i said before, we have nothing to loose by writing a polite letter, reminding him of his promise.

sai,

we can send a complain letter to him or better to people around him. Powell, National Security advisers (Rice, etc).

I am for sending the petition to the White House. He is going in an election year and the immigrants votes do matter to him. Also it is a matter of shifting resources for USCIS. If it is coming from the top, they would allocate all the resources to 485 processing.

Bush is the answer!

I think we should contact Mr Bush. Not to remind him of his promise but to bring our epathy to his attention. For all we know, he might not have thought or nobody else might have brought to his attention the situation and problems of I-485 filers. There are so many things that he has to concentrate on. Bringing this to his attention will only help... if nothing else.

Plus, as SAI said - we have nothing to loose other than the cost of the postage and the time (already spend for the petition) to draft a letter to him.

I also think, it will be a good idea to bring to his attention our strength in the numbers and the amount we contribute directly - indirectly into this economy. PrinceofDarkness has a very valid point.

You win only if you play! And whats wrong or what do we lose in playing with Bush.

To All:

I think idea is very effective. We should start some where. How about the sending the I485 backlog petetion to some these big shots. The benefits to US economy will really be BIG. The apeal should a focus on benefits to US rather than the I485 applicants.

Thanx.

dsatish, edison, dengdeng, cinta

what say you guys? Can we send a version of the Petition to Mr Bush. It should not be the same. Otherwise it will seem that we are overstepping Khatri, Aguirre and everybody else we already send. It should be a different version and should reference the original petition send to Khatri. This might also trigger a question from white house to BCIS regarding the petition - or it may not.

Over the weekend I met an editor with "IndianReporter", I am sending a copy of the petition and request him to run an article in their edition.

We need a new petition for white house

I think we need a new petition for white house, or maybe something very small, kindof cover letter, and attach existing petition as a resume :)
This "cover letter" must be very small, something like 50-100 lines. Nobody in WH will read anything larger. It must clearly say that
1. president promised to help us
2. there will be immediate positive direct - indirect effect on economy if backlog will be drastically reduced
3. in 5 years we will become citizens and we will definetely vote for republicans if they will reduce backlog

Once we have text, all of us can submit it to WH using www.whitehouse.gov. This way they will notice it :)
