Should they take my I-94

Should the border officer take my I-94 when I go out
of the country for vacation? It is valid until 09/2002.

When I went to Vancouver for my H1-B Visa Stamping, they took all of my previous I-94 upon re-entry to the states and issued me a new I-94 with a validity date based on the validity of my passport (not based on the validity of my H1-B Visa Stamping).
