Should the old EAD be returned?

Hi guys,
My 485 is pending and I got a new EAD. I was asked to return the old one to the local office. I was wondering if you could share your experience.

when u renewed you EAD

did u submit the employment letter.
I was going through the EAD Application and no where it mentions that we should submit a employment letter.

all it required is
485 Receipt Notice
2 photos
I-94,
Old EAD Copy and
I-765 Signature Card

any opinions on necessity of employer\'s letter
