Should I hire a lawyer?

I did my interview in October 2007. Everything went smooth. I had the police certificate missing during the interview and the lady told me that I can bring it as soon as I receive it. But she told me that my case is approved and when I bring the certificate I would pick passports the next day. Before traveling to the consulate (we do not have one in my country) I sent her an email telling her that I have the certificate with me and sent her a copy as an email attachment. Again the lady replied that this is the required certificate and I should come to the consulate to get the visa. I went to the consulate on 8, March 2008. The same lady came to me and apologized that she made a mistake. She did not explain what the mistake was but it seems that she forgot to send to Washington my case for administrative processing after the interview took place. At the end she asked for my email and said that she will contact me after two weeks. I contacted her again but she replied that she sent another enquiry to Washington and she is still waiting for an answer.
My fair is that it might take much longer and I could lose the chance of getting a green card. Should I hire a lawyer since it is the consulate's fault.

That's really unfortunate. However, September 30 is still quite far away. I would just wait (and keep sending her emails to ask about your status). Good luck!

Your case is really sad .All is not lost and since sept 30th is quite interval, fingers crossed they will call you back for your visa.Do not hire a Lawer who will do nothing but take your hard earned cash for no job done.Do keep in touch with the lady at the consulate though.
All the best of luck...we'll all remember you in prayers !!!

depending on under what nationality you qualify for DV, washington DC needs to do security check on your application. when it comes to Security check, consulate, immigration authorities or lawyers wont have any say until the name check has been completed. as far as hiring a lawyer, i have looked into this matter and i can tell you with confidence that most people on this forum know a lot more than immigration lawyer about DV. if i were you, i would keep my money in my pocket and bug the consulate once a month (in a polite manner so they dont get mad) hang in there. you should hear from them soon enough.
