Should I change to EAD before leaving to India

Hi,
I want to use AP to re-enter US. Currently I am working on H1 (stamping on passport expired). Should I change to EAD with Employer before leaving to India, or I can use AP to re-enter while still on H1 status on Employer. I mean can I shift to EAD from H1 after I re-enter on AP?

You dont have to switch to EAD to travel using AP. You could still work on a valid H1 and use AP to enter into the USA.

You can use EAD anytime before or after using the AP. It does not matter.
AP is not related to EAD. It is a document for travel only so no one will ask you if you are on H1 or if you have EAD at POE.
