Should I apply for the citizenship or not?

Hi every one, I got my residence on january of this year, but I have 3 years of marriage now and someone told me that I should apply already because I might qualify for the citizenship. I am looking for your expertice on this case.

I think the 3 year starts from when you get the greencard not when you get married. Also the person has to be a citizen from when you recieved your greencard for this rule to apply. I am sure someone else can put a little light on this. This is just my opnion, maybe someone with more knowledge can confirm this for sure.
