Should both parents apply together? Pls. Reply- Urgent

Both my parents visited the US in 2001. Now only my mother plans to visit and will be applying for a visa via dropbox at the Mumbai consulate. Hopefully she will get approved with a 10 year visa. Should my father also apply although he does not plan to travel? This way both parents would get a 10 yr tourist visa.

Offcourse, if my mother gets only a 6 month visa which she is applying for, a 6 month visa for my father would be useless as he does not plan to travel.

Please advise.

Person who does not intend to travel need not apply. Is your
mother opting for a 6 month visa ( is that an option ?).
