Short trips

Hello Everyone,

I could not confirm the following from FAQ and guide:

1. Does the short trips deducted from your residence duration? If I have taken few trips outside the country from 1day - few weeks? when will I become elligible? 5 yrs from GC? or 5yrs from GC + time spent outside US?

If second formula applies then:

2. What if you and your spouse got the GC at the same time but both have taken short trips of different duration? can they apply together when at least one of them has completed 5 yrs

From what I understand by reading the N400 guidebook is that the time spend outside the US on shorts trips like couple of weeks or so does not count. Continuous 6 months or more time outside the US violate "continuous residency" so that is a problem.

Can someone reconfirm this?

I was out for 3 weeks, and I applied 90 days prior to my 5 yrs annivarsory and it wasn't problem. Caution. Don't even apply even day early, make sure to count the days on the Calendar. You can apply before 90 days but don't go by the months because you could have less days on some months. I hope it helps.
