Shifting to H1 from L1 - No Job!

Hi there,
I tried searching but couldnt find the situation like me.

1. I am working here on L1.
2. In oct 2008, I got H1B approved. since then I am trying to get on it but not finding correct job.
3. I havent stamped the H1 yet, I just have approval notice with me. I was thinking that when I will go to India, will take appointment and stamp it.

Problem -
1. Company who sponsered my H1, called up today. They are asking me to either shift to H1 OR they will have to cancell my H1 as they have to comply with some new H1 rules that USCIS is posting.

I want to keep my H1B, What are my options? I am not able to find the Job in my area and dont want to relocate as wife is working here.

unless you have a job or employer willing to pay on bench, dont move to H1b. you will be out of status. if you are not getting a job move back to H4(since your wife on h1b)
