Hi guys, long time without write, but always reading. I want to share you about our last experience with process of EAD. We as a family applied for EAD, after 150 following our asylum application. My EAD came in time, for my wife came after 1 month, but for my daughter, had a 120 days delay. I went to local USCIS office with an Info-pass appointment. After review of our case, my 6 years old daughter get an interim (provisional) EAD instantly at USCIS office.
They told us that the reason of delay was because she never did biometrics. (Actually I showed them probe that we did biometrics before our asylum case interview), they told us that we have to do another biometrics diferent that the first ones. Showing mine and my wife EAD, I asked them how can we able to get the EAD if we request at the same time?? The officer told us: lucky you guys................
So, finally they gave us my daughter's interim EAD (looks like an Blockbuster's membership card with photo) with an appointment the same day for her biometrics. We went to the appointment and asked to do biometrics too, we did it without problems.
After this experience note this:
1. EAD it is not only for adults able to work. For minors is very important the issue of an EAD, because is the only way to get a SSN (important to enroll kids in insurance, etc).
2. After receive EAD, you can go to Social Security Office and ask for a SSN. Maybe you are not still in the system, but you have to wait (without back to the office) a couple of weeks more to receive it by mail.
3. Some USCIS people are confuse about the right to ask in office for an interim EAD. For regular process you can ask interim after 90 days process without receive it. For asylum cases, the delay of 30 days is enough to go in person (thru Info-pass) and ask your EAD.
Good luck to everyone.
We are still waiting and waiting.
