Sharing Landing experience

Hi All,

I just wanted to share my landing experience in canada. We flew from texas to toronto in december last week and came back on january 9th.

When we first land at toronto airport we faced the canadian immigration. We gave our passport with our immigration visas and gave landing documents. They verified our heights and name. They took our pictures for PR card. They verified the settlement funds from us. Then they gave us one copy of confirmation of permanent residence marked with 'Not valid for travel'. We provide the address in toronto where we were going to stay. They told us that it will take 4-6 weeks to get your PR card in mail. And then checked our baggage from the customs. They gave us the booklet for applying SIN card and other information and we were out of the airport.

While returning to US the immigration section for US is right at the toronto airport and they checked our US visas and allowed us to board the flight. They didn't ask us any questions.

In short the landing in canada was smooth and coming back to US there was no problem.

Thanks.

Q for immi_can

immi_can,

I have a question for you: Since Canadians stamped your landing papers “NOT VALID FOR TRAVEL”. How would you get your PR card? Are you expecting a letter from them informing you to pickup the PR card at some location in Canada or you will receive the card itself in the mail at your Canadian address? I was in an impression that they do not mail PR cards but just a letter informing you to pickup the card at certain location.

I would appreciate your response in this regard.

Thanks,

RamFan

I think you are one lucky person.I travel frequently to Canada as i am a Canadian Citizen. While coming back to US .At the US Immigration whether it is Toronto airport or land border post they not only check your visa but ask in detail about your purporse of visit and about your family structure, work place in uSA though they can clearly see my h-1b stamped in my passport .I don't know if it's only me or other people share such situations. The bottomline is that the immigration authority of either country discourage you to keep status in both country. This was told to me by one of the Immigration inspector during recent visit.

no canus_immi. I haven't got my PR card yet.

How about you. Did you received your PR card.

Please let us know so that we can figure how much time it takes them to mail.
