I did my PP stamping at SFO on Aug 27. We were there at 6:15am and got out at 2:45pm!!
While from Oct 1st, you can go only with appointments, they are taking appointments starting Aug 16th.
During this period, their computerized system (that calls the token numbers to windows) is treating those who don't have appointment as stand-by's. Anyone with an appointment will be called ahead of anyone without.
So for each hour, after servincing those with appointments, in the last 10-15 minutes (if they are done with all appointments) before next hour, those without appointment are serviced.
So as number of people who take appointment increases, since the infopass started, the time taken for servicing the walk-in people is increasing.
My advice, unless you are prepared to stay the whole day, don't go without an appointment.
Hope this helps others in planning.
