Service center processing times

Guys a stupid question. Let me know if you can shed some light.

Indivicual state processing centers show times of applications that
they are processing . For example California service center shows
I-485 processing dates as of "June 2 2005" . This has also moved from
Feb 2005 to June 2005 in the last 2 months. If the PD is not current
what would they be processing at I-485 stage. If my understanding is
correct you need a Visa number to continue ? What could they possibly
process during I-485 and keep moving the dates evey month ?

Something I am unable to understand ? Any insights

PD vs. I-485 Receipt Dates

The Service centers post processing status by receipt dates, NOT Priority dates.
So when the California service center shows I-485 processing dates as of "June 2 2005", means that they are processing cases with I-485 receipt dates (when the AOS application was recieved by the respective SC) of June 2, 2005 & onwards.
The PD is based on LC/I-140 recieved dates. The LC in the above cases would have been prior to the cut-off dates reported by DOS.... e.g. my I-485 reciept date is July 2003, BUT by PD is August 2002...
Hope that helps

Yes the California service center processes Reciept Dates . That is true , but
what can they process if your PD is not current ?

For example: My PD is 2000 September, and I filed I-485 (receipt date ) of April 2005. The current Date of I485 reciept processing in California center is June 2
but my PD is not current.

What are they processing then ? if they do not have a available visa for me ?

Well...they could be processing "Other Countries" which are current. Of course, they should not post such dates since by doing so they are misleading the government and the president by making an "apparent" show of fulfilling their promise of processing 485 cases in less than months..which obviously is not true.

guys...i agree that the service centers process by RD.......and i would also like to point that they are not going to wait for visa number to approve a case....since now they have plugged the input they can easily catchup........you can see that in the next 6 months....most of the people who have filed their 485 will get approved.....they may not get their visa.....which will be issued only when a visa number becomes available...
