I don't know where this would fall in at, but I'm lost and don't know what to do right now.
I have a friend who is trapped in a very bad place right now. Her boyfriend/fiance is treating her pretty much like a slave. He has complete control, access to everything about her, bank accounts, complete control over her phone and who she talks to. He's even holding her passport. He has beat her and abused her, and she doesn't want to be with him. But she doesn't see a way out of it. I think that she's here on some kind of marriage visa, I can't remember exactly what she said it's a blur and I have no idea when the next time will be that I can talk to her. She isn't married to him, but she's engaged. She's afraid that if she tries to leave him or get police involved, that her family that she does have here might get caught up in his psychotic actions and also that she'll be kicked out of the U.S. for 10 years. She really needs to get away from this guy, and I've offered her a place to stay, but she believes that it being out the state she's in will also violate the visa. She hasn't always been on this type of visa though. Her family moved here around middle school, so she went to middle school, highschool, and even graduated college and has a degree here. Her and her family were set and were applying for citizenship, but her parents decided to move back to their home country and the citizenship process stalled and never went through. It's my understanding that she has been back and forth since then. She's only 23 so it hasn't been long since she graduated and got her degree, she had been studying to get back into school and get a masters or go to a med school. Now here's my question, what are her options for getting out of her situation without having negative consequences as far as her status here goes? Is it possible for her to get away from this psycho? Does she have options? I'm really worried and this stressing me out so much.
