Hi,

WAnted to learn if anyone has had success in contacting Senator / Congressman in Indiana to expedite their cases.
Which senator / Congressman's office is sympathetic to immigration related issues.

I plan to do so in the next week.

My details

I-485 RD 02/19/2002
ND 03/11/2002
FP1 06/20/2002
RFE 10/27/2003 (EVL)
RFE received by INS 11/21/2003
FP2 02/13/2004 (sent by FBI to INS same day)

Separately FBI confirmed that they had completed mine and wife's name check in December 2002 and January 2003 respectively.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Senator / Congressman in Indiana

Hello,

Has anyone contacted Senator / Congressman in Indiana. Was it worth it?

Thanks

Muract

Yes, I did

I contacted the office of Mark Souder in Fort Wayne in November last year. At that point I had not received even a second fingerprinting notice, and though the NSC told the congresman's office they had just received my change of address form (which was a lie because I had not changed my address since before I applied for adjustment) I did get a second fingerprinting notice very quickly. Actually on second thoughts, they had said that the fingerprinting schedule in Fort Wayne was very backed up, and the constituent liasion person was able to get it scheduled for Indy on my insistence. Subsequently I did maintain a constant follow up with the office, and since then I received an RFE in February, and have responded to it.

I am not sure how much of an impact the congressman's office had on expediting the processing after the fingerprinting stage. What I can say though is that the lady there did follow up quite diligently, and did let me know prior to the RFEs that they were on their way.

norfesept01,

You said that Senator office was able to help you in your case. Is this because your rd passed the official NSC processing date for I-485? or they are just helpful.

Please let us know as I am also thinking about contacting senators. My rd is feb'02.

When I had first contacted them, the "official" processing date was behind my receipt date, and in fact it just passed it sometime in February. On the whole, I think contacting them probably did have some impact, if not in substance, then at least to my state of mind.

I do think though that because of the tremendous backlog, the senators'/congressmen's offices are getting far more requests for help than they used to. How they react to more requests probably depends on how many people's cases they are following, their mood at that time, their rapport with the face at the other end of the line at BCIS, the receipt date vs. the official processing date, how much they want to erode their capital with BCIS and so on.

That said, it won't hurt to try.

norfeSep01,

Thanks for posting your experiences. I will also contact Mark Souder's office in Fort Wayne. By the way has your case been approved or are you still waiting

Just got approved

I checked about 15 minutes back and it had been approved. Still waiting for approval for wife and kids though.

Are you in Mark Souder's district? If so, I would recommend your going there in person, rather than calling by phone, as that reduces the possibility of their fobbing you off. The person I first met with there retired on 2/1/04, but surely someone else would have replaced her.
