Hi,
I finished my Phd ,working on H1B as post-doc for past 2 years. My wife has been working in a 'non-permanent' position on H1B for the past 5 years. Since she only has a masters degree, and given her job constraints, she could never get her GC process started. Her 6 years are up Dec. 2010. We decided to go for a self-petition EB2 NIW for me. Got the I-140 approval notice in 3 weeks, but since we are from India, we have to wait it out to get the I-485 started. Is there any way she can get her employers to do a 7th year extension based on my I-140 approval ? Is there any other workaround to continue staying employed after her H1 period ends ?
Any input will be a huge help!

Hi Gibbs,
About 6-7 very strong letters. List of publications and citations. Make sure the letters do not read like job recommendations - you are not applying for a job. They are most useful if the recommendations come from people in your field of work, but not people you 'seem' to work with closely - basically trying to show that you are a well known person in your field and other people are acquainted with your work and your achievements .So its not a bad idea to get a letter from your advisor/supervisor ,but you can be pretty certain that will not be as important as the one you might be able to get from some other reputed person in your field. So focus on that..the tone of the letter should be extolling your virtues as an already accomplished professional of immense importance to the United states , and not someone with a 'potential' to accomplish. This country is full of people with 'potential'.
I would suggest you get an immigration lawyer to prepare your case. Since NIW is evaluated case by case and is very subjective, immigration lawyers have a good idea about waht kind of letters will fly and what will not.

Hope this helps.
