Self inquiry vs Congressman inquiry

USCIS supervisor told me that if I don't hear a decision on my I-485 by this coming Monday, they can initiate the inquiry. Then USCIS would respond in 30 days.

I guess that is the very same inquiry initiated by congressman ? If so, anyone has any experience on which of the two methods are more efficient;should I initiate USCIS inquiry myself or is it more effective if I let congressman do it ?

The news that I should send EAD renewals SIX MONTHS PRIOR TO EXPIRATION took my level of frustration to a new level.

Don't bother about applying EAD's 6 months before...
- As far as the interim EAD rule is concerned, it's still based on 90 day period wait....
So, from a safer perspective...at least apply 3 months before...still holds true...

At least at TSC, when I applied, I didn't lose any period on my previous EAD...So, if USCIS is ready to accept applications 6 months before - that's awesome!

I am not sure about othere service centers...

For namecheck,
I heard in one forum that one cannot initiate both inquiries at the same time(congressman inquiry and TSC inquiry)...one can only do one inquiry at a time...

my personal advice - call up NSC and get to know if you are stuck in namecheck...
If yes, initiate a congressman inquiry first...NSC inquiries do not help really!

In my case , I first initiated TSC inquiry and then senator inquiry....Just wasted a month, really on TSC inquiry!

Looks like your background checks are done, then you should be getting your GC soon!
Best of Luck, buddy!

Weren't they about to abolish the EAD interim rule ? I thought I read that somewhere... that would be terrible.

Well, they say the backgrounds are done, but where is the GC then ? Something tells me that it won't be ready in 4 days from now. I am getting ready to call congressman and follow up formally. So NSC should reply within 30 days upon start of inquiry. OK.

I think I will apply for my EAD only in December. I will not apply for AP and EAD for my wife. In the worst case scenario, if the damn GC doesn't get approved by March 2007, my wife could stop working by then to avoid out of status problems.

marlon2006,

From what I have heard it is best to utilize the Congressional Inquiry as a last resort. If I were you, I would get in touch with the Congressman as soon as the time limit for Service Center Inquiry runs out. Also make sure to document all your attempts and correspondence with USCIS and mention those in your official letter to the Congressman. You want him/his office to sympathize with you and you want to show them that you have tried every avenue. This will give your inquiry a lot more weight. A lot also depends on your congressman. Some have been known to react quickly while others do not help.

Good luck.
