Selective Services Documentation

I was 30 yrs old when I applied for and got my green card. Before that I was on a H-1 (non-immigrant visa). Per the selective services rules, I do not have to register. The INS Interview letter however wants "Selective Service Documentation"

Does anyone know what this is about...

You need to write to Selective Service to obtain a letter from them, even if you were not required to register. That is simply part of the naturalization process.

Just go to the link below, print out the form, fill it up and send it to them with all the documentations.

http://www.sss.gov/PDFs/infoform.pdf

You can call them at 1-847-688-6888 to get more information, but they'll just ask you to submit the form.

Good luck.

I totally agree with you in that it should not be needed. However, it does not surprise me that some BCIS interviewers may still ask for it from applicants who clearly need not register. I just feel that it is always better to err to the side of caution with dealing with BCIS :)

It is in the standard language of the interview letter

It is required as per the statndard language of the interview letter. Even ofr my wife it was mentioned that she needs to bring Selective Services Documentation.

The enclosed letter for the required documentation to take with the interview letter is also a standard pre printed letter which also states that you need to bring Selective Services Documentation.
