Selective Service?

All,
Sorry, I am a newbie... asking a lot of questions.
I read about Selective Service while preparing to apply for N-400. Am I required to do so?

I entered the US when I was 24 and with student visa. I had it until I turned 26 and then I had one year of practical training and then I switched to H-1B when I turned 27. I didn't get my GC thru asylum until I turned 34.

Being on F-1 visa is considered lawful nonimmigrant, correct? If that is true, that means I don't have to do the Selective Service registration then?

thanks a bunch,
jasonb

You were not required to register:
Noncitizens who are not required to register with Selective Service include men who are in the U.S. on student or visitor visas, and men who are part of a diplomatic or trade mission and their families.

Basically nonimmigrant aliens are not required to register, although illegal aliens are.
