Officer may ask. I was OVER 27 when I got GC and I did NOT require SSS registration. I got a letter from SIL saying I need not have registered so I was prepared for interview. I am over 31 at time of interview, and officer still asked me about selective service. (Many say they ignore if you are over 31, *but* they did not ignore).

Get a letter from SIL office - stating whether you needed to register or did not need to register.

If you needed to register, you will have to take a written letter signed by you to the interview saying why you failed to register. Then its upto the officer. Most likely, they will be ok.

Can you provide more details about your visa status from the beginning to present? It would help us understand and guide you.

If you entered USA on valid non-immigrant status (ie. student visa, work visa, etc) at the ages between 18 and 25, you were not required to register. If you entered USA as a permanent resident at the ages between 18 and 25, then you were required to register.

If you have all supporting documents (student visa, i-20 form, work visa, any visas), bring them with you to the interview and prove them to the interview officer if s/he asks you to provide.

Please help

yes, i entered USA as a permanent resident. my father is us citizen. he get citizenship in 1999. but when he applied for us. he was permanent resident.

Sss

Indeed you did not follow the law and that will be a problem at the time of interview. Get the document prepared as suggested and be prepared with your story of how you and your family did not know about the law. It also wouldn't hurt to hire an attorney.

Hmm... i don't mean to scare you but i think it would be in your best interest to speak to an immigration lawyer.

Depending on who you interview with, some may consider you not registering for selective service in the span of 9 years as "unpatriotic". And ignorance may also not be an excuse in this matter.

i fill up sil form...

i fill up SIL form. last friday and i mail to SSS. i send some Documents. my passport photo copies there ins stamp on it when i enterd usa. my SS photo copy. and i write i neaver know about this service..... that will help thanx very much all of u...............they will response me b4 my interview...

I wish you good luck. Please don't forget to share the results of your case just incase someone else runs into the same problem.

Ramindersingh - how old are you now? Since you failed to register for SS, you'll need to be at least 31yrs old before you can be approved for natz. (Thats based on the 26yr cutoff age for registration + 5yr good moral behavior period)
