Selective Service Status Verification

Has anyone dealt with Selective Services Status Verification?

I had entered United States for the first time in December 1988 as an international student on F-1 visa. I stayed as an international student till December 1989 with a brief visit to India in August. Then I returned to India.

Since this was prior to my 26th birthday I need verification of my visa status and dates of stay during this period for Selective Services status. Selective Services needs either my I-20 from 15 years ago or a letterl from my school verifying that I was a full time INTERNATIONAL student on F-1.

I have tried my school and many other avenues but they do not retain stuff like I-20. So, I am quite desparate as I can not get that information.

Has anyone come across this situation, please help by pointing me to where I can get it?

You should ask the international office at your school to write you a letter. Without an I-20 or a letter from the school, I doubt you can get a Status Letter.

Some of the items that you can provide:
1) the F1 stamp from your passport and the date you entered US as a student
2) your school transcript to show your full-time student status
3) a letter from your school international office or a letter from the school registrar's office

Good luck
