Selective Service - Status Information letter

We were filling out the status information letter and hit a wall. It asks you to write the date you entered the states for the first time. Then list all the status held since. He enetered the US when he was a kid which is no longer on his passports. We don't know the exact date he entered. We also aren't sure the exact dates after that. Are these dates need to be very accurate? Is there a way to find out what status he was on from when to when through INS? His mother in law prepared everything till he got his GC, now I am helping him with USC.

my cousin did the samething with SSS, he put in approximate dates and then got a response from SSS asking for exact dates and proof. SSS is very particular about gaps and needs proof of what your status was during all time.
My cousin had to submit copies of his F1/I-20, OPT - practical training card, H1 etc.
If you leave a gap, they will ask for proof and will never give you a status letter until you show them all the required docs.
Goodluck.

Thank you. That's good to know...

Another question in this section. My husband visited US several times but he didn't live here until 99.

Is he supposed to list the actual periods that each visa was good for like this?

xx/xx/92 - xx/xx/97 status on B2 (He only visited twice during this time and stayed back home till 99)
xx/xx/95 - xx/xx/02 status - GC pending
xx/xx/02 - current - GC holder

OR

Is he supposed to list by the dates he visited US like this?

xx/xx/92 - xx/xx/92 status on B2
xx/xx/95 - xx/xx/95 status on B2
xx/xx/99 - xx/xx/02 - GC pending (AOS?)
xx/xx/02 - current - GC holder

Thanks.

I did some searching and found links to more detailed instructions. My husband was over 26 when he became GC holder so I guess we don't need to get the status letter?

Naturalization applicants need only demonstrate that they were 26 years of age or older when they first entered the United States as immigrants to prove that they were not required to register with Selective Service. Proof of an applicant's age and immigration status should be contained in the applicant's file. This evidence is all that is necessary to prove that the applicant was not required to register.

The general rule is that if a male noncitizen takes up residency in the U.S. before his 26th birthday, he must register with Selective Service.

The key phrase buried in there is "...when they first entered the United States as immigrants...". Normally this is the point at which he obtained his GC, however if there was any periods when he was out of status for any reason (e.g. gap between F1 and H1), that also counts as a period when he needed to be registered with SS.
