Hi,

I am getting ready to apply for US citizenship and am not sure on how to respond to the question about " Selective Service Registration" . N-400 form asks for males living in US between the ages of 18-26 to supply a Selective Service number. I was on a student visa when I was living in US and was between 18 -26 years of age.
How should I answer this question on N-400?

Please Advice

males in that age bracket on a valid non-immigrant visa (like student visa) are exempt from Selective Service registration. You should answer NO to question 33.

nkm-oct23 is correct.
Q33 asks: "Are you a male who lived in the United States at any time between your 18th and 26th birthdays in any status except as a lawful nonimmigrant?". In your case the correct answer is "No" since your were a lawful nonimmigrant (on a valid non-immigrant visa, namely a student visa) when you were in the U.S. between 18 -26 years of age.

You should answer NO unless you were out of status.
