Selective Service Question

Hi,

I got my green card at the age of 37. I'm currently 42 and applying for my citizenship. I've not registered with the selective service.

To further clarify, I came to the US at the age of 23 on an F1 student visa. I graduated college at 27 plus one more year on practical training so I was on a student visa until I was 28 at which time I got my H1B.

I believe I need to answer the following Selective Service question as No, correct?
"Are you a male who lived in the United States at any time between your 18th and 26th birthdays in any status except as a lawful non-immigrant?"

Thanks

I beleive you have to answer "no" to this question because even though you were in this country before your 26th birthday, at the time, you are a lawful nonimmigrant (F1 according to you) and therefore you were not required to register with the selective service. If I were you, I will go to this link http://www.sss.gov/Status.html and request status information from SSS. It will be better if you have the letter handy before your interview because there is a likelyhood that they will request for it.

Not having a status letter from SSS should not prevent you from continuing with your N-400 application though.

Remember my advice is not a professional advice and should not be consider as one. It based merely on my personal experience and should you need a professional opinion, please contact an expert in this regards.

Best wishes!!

Thank you

Thank you for your reply. I just clicked the link you provided and looks like they use the very situation that I was in i.e. F1 student visa, in the FAQ section.

Looks like I will need to provide documentation about my student status. Thank you very much for your help.
