Selective service question...

I am helping my uncle with his N-400 forms. The selective service question came up and we need to know what he needs to do next.

"Are you a male who lived in the US at any time between your 18th and 26th birthdays in any status except as a lawful nonimmigrat?"

His answer to this question is yes. He came to the U.S. in 1980 as a refugee from Cambodia at the age of 11 yrs. old. He became a permanent resident right away, 1980. We checked online at the selective service website to see if he ever registered himself and it shows that he did not register with the selective service. He is now 38 yrs old and wants to be a citizen. He never registered b/c he never knew he had to or what that was all about, 1st generation immigrant.

My question is, what does he need to do now so that this situation does not further delay his N-400 application? Thank you in advance for any info that might help us.

This is it, you already know the answer. "His answer to this question is yes. He came to the U.S. in 1980 as a refugee from Cambodia at the age of 11 yrs. old. > I don't see any problems, as long your uncle tell the truth @ the time of interview. Can't change the past, good luck.

Search the forum for boatbod's answers to questions similar to yours. He has sources that indicate that, since your uncle is over 31, the question is pretty much moot - 5 years of "good morale character" clears the "stain" of forgetting to register for the draft.

As High_5 says, he should just tell the truth (but get boatbod's reference printed out and have it available during the interview)
