Selective Service Question...?

I received my GC when I was 26 years 2 months old. I was on H1 & F1 prior to that. I received my SSS registration automatically in the mail 2 months after getting the GC. (Age 26 y 4 m)

Now the N-400 application states “Are you a male who lived in the United States at any time between your 18th and 26th birthdays in any status except as a lawful nonimmigrant?”

The answer to that is NO, as I got GC 2 months after my 26th birthday, easy to prove via GC dates.

But reading this forum if you answer NO you will need a letter to show that you were ineligible as you were older. But I can’t get that letter as I am already registered.

So will it be ok to answer the question YES and put my SSS information on N-400? How should I answer?

Thanks.

I don't know what case you are referring to. But as far as I know, if you were older than 26 when you became a permanent resident, you don't need to show any other proof that you did not need to register for Selective Service.

That would be lie. Won't it? Because you clearly never lived in the US as a permanent resident while you were between 18 and 26. So, if I were you, I would still answer NO.

Since you obtained your GC after your 26th birthday, USCIS won't expect you to provide a SS letter unless they believe you were out of status somewhere between your F1 and H1 visas. Most likely this is not the case, and you won't be asked for the letter since it is really obvious from your GC date that you were already over the cutoff age.
