I entered US on a tourist visa in 1990 (I was 20 at the time), applied for political asylum, married US citizen in 2002, applied (2002) and received (2006) marriage based GS. Early 2010 applied for N-400 and received interview letter for next month. List of documents contains Selective Service registration.
Now, I had no clue until this year what Selective Service was. Even if I did recieve a letter I'd have been sure I don't qualify as my lawyer said I was in this strange "political asylum application pending" status and hence I was under impression I were not eligible for any benefits or participation in any political/social/military process.
- What can I do besides stating the above?
- What was - or how can I find out - the SSS law in 90's (today even undocumented aliens must register according to SSS (sss dot gov) site
- There is a Request For Status Information Letter on SSS site which has USCIS related section, but turnaround is over 135 days, and I'm not even sure such letter will help
- My lawyer offers to state my situation in an affidavit - which I'll do - and that it already helped one of his clients - any other ideas are appreciated.
Thanks
