Hi,
I initially came to the US then travelled to Canada. In Canada, I applied for political asylum. After six months in Canada, I realized that I would much prefer to live in the USA. Accordingly, I would like to go back to the US and apply for asylum there.
The Safe Third Country Rule (between US-Canada) did not apply to me as I did not apply for asylum at a border crossing otherwise I would have been forced to apply for asylum in the US. However, now that I have applied in Canada I have two worries about terminating for asylum application in Canada and seeking asylum in the US (assuming that I can get a visa to enter the US and I would not have to apply at the border):
(1) Does the US allow applications to be made from individuals whose applications for asylum are still being considered in Canada?
(2) Even if permitted, would it be detrimental to my case?
Thank you for your thoughts.
