Security Clearance

Hi y'all:

Went for my I-485 interview in Portland, Oregon in December 2002. Interview went fine and officer basically said my case was approved. Unfortunately, he could not stamp my passport because of the "freeze" that was happening then.

3 months later, I am still waiting for this "security clearance"!!

My Lawyer contacted Portland INS recently and they say they are still waiting for the security clearance to be approved.

Have no clue whats going on? How can they take 3 months for a security clearance? Seems like it should be a no-brainer...

Anyone with this experience? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What is this means

When I contacted senator, I got a message from them saying that

"You are currently undergoing the necessary background checks. "

What do they check?????

Any experience please post.

No RFE
No Approval.

Guys, As far as I know they check the criminal background of the applicant before they give the approval. FBI gives this clearance and they base this on the national criminal history database(I do not exactly remember the name of the database). If they don't find a hit they will send the clearance over to INS. Sometimes it is possible that it gets delayed if the name of the applicant hits some wrong records and flags as a person with criminal history. Then people at FBI will have to manually inspect the hit and try to determine if the applicant really does have any criminal history. I was told that this whole process will not take more that 2 months but surprized to see that they have put the approval on hold for more than 3 months. Good luck all.

I even called and confirmed with FBI, they send my report to INS in the month of Aug 2001 when I did my finger prints. What is that they redo the criminal background check again?

If you know the website r phone number please let me know. I would like call and check the status. It is long time now, more then 3 months.

re:security check

I had gone through the fingerprinting etc. and the interview, as mentioned in my earlier mail. Even gave my prints for the "future" GC.

This security check is something else. My lawyer also seems clueless.

What can they be checking for 3 months. Really??

What if there is a glitch in their system and you are stuck? How does one get unstuck??

This is frustrating.

Sorry should have included this in my earlier message.

Pad20001:

When you said you contacted the FBI and senator, did you do it yourself or go through your lawyer? What did you do, just call up a number? Write a letter? How fast and responsive are they?

Saw your post in another message about feeling helpless.
I hear you man! I feel exactly the same way and have resigned myself to whatever happens.

This process has been so long, arbitrary and absurd that somedays I wake up and wonder; why is this happening?

Hang in there.

I have the same issue....my wife and i had the interview 2 weeks back at detroit ins..my fbi cleareance is still pending so both of us were not given passport stamping.... I was told it should take about a week for approval....but there is no news about my case. I tried calling but they want me to come personally and stand in a big line just to find out the status....this seems to be a never ending cycle.
