Security checks for a minor

I recently called the 800 number for case status enquiry for my sons pending 485 at NSC (it is outside processing date, but retrogressed; however, I called anyway). I just received a letter from NSC stating that the "processing of this case has been delayed due to security checks"!!!! Has anyone experienced something like this - my son is only 9 years old, and I didn't know that even minors are required to undergo security checks! By the way my own case status enquiry resulted in precisely the same thing. Perhaps NSC did the cut and paste thing and just changed the case details.

Please let me know your thoughts (especially name check/security check veterans). Thank you so much.

Thanks

Thanks for your post. My 140 has been approved since February 2004 without any security checks. However, I was not aware of ALL applications going through the internal security check (especially minors).

Well Shamal,

In my case , my spouse and myslef have the green card approved more that 9 months ago , but my kids 485 is still pending also called uscis customer support , but they have no clue...said they will initiate an enquiry, and will send me mail abt the details...but it make no sense to me , 485 was applied all on the same day.

My details : PD april/2003
140/485 : RD 10/2003 , approved 12/2004

CIS forgets to initiate namecheck

dmun
This is what I found regarding my son's case: When we applied for I-485, he was 14 years old. So namecheck was not necessary and was not initiated by TSC. However when the case was transferred to Dallas district office in Nov2004, my son was 16 years old. During one of my followup visits I was told CIS was waiting for the results of namecheck. When I asked whether they have ordered for namecheck, they found they never did. So I was asked to fill up a request form asking CIS to initiate a namecheck  However during our AOS interview the officer told us there was no data for our son probably because the namecheck is still not ordered :( He promised to initiate the namecheck process based on my earlier request made in Jan2005.
So please check whether the namecheck process has been initiated for your kid. Sometimes CIS forgets to initiate the namecheck process and keeps waiting for the results

Hmmmm...thanks Dallas

I did speak with the 1-800 number couple of times , last time i spoke with them abt 2 weeks ago the officer said that he is going to initiate an enquiry with NSC and i would get the reason forr the delay by mail.

He never mentioned nething abt name check , are we supposed to ask him abt it.???.

btw , my kid is 9 yrs and she had an RFE in Feb/05 to which we replied , and later in Aug/05 she had her biometrics done ( digital photo and thumb print )

Is this nething normal ( in the sense i call it normal , if my kids 485 is pending bcos of retrogression ) ,or u think there is something else ?

As usual thanks again guys for yr valuable inputs.
