Hi
I am currently working in my OPT and would like to apply for a Masters in Electrical Engineerinng at a university for SUMMER 2007.
But I got some questions before I could apply for it:
1. I heard that for people who are already in US, the universities wont issue the I-20 until they come and register for the semeseter they applied. Is that true. Which means,if I apply for a university now and get an admit by December for SUMMER 2007, when will I receive my I-20. Do I need to wait till June 2007 to get my I-20?
2. I could see from the univ websites that summer class usually starts by the first week of June. But my employer may file for my H1 by the first week of April 2007 as soon as the quota opens up and will have an start date of October 1 2007 for my H1. So, in that case, say if my H1 gets approved by APRIL(in premium processing), will I still get an I-20 from the univ for taking courses starting in SUMMER 2007, that I had already applied. I hrd people saying that universites wont issue a I-20 if the H1 application is pending/approved and waitng for a change of status. Is that true?
There are several intreprations made by different people on this. But, I would personnaly take the advice from this group.
By the way all am trying to do here is to fill up the gap between my OPT expiry date and H1 start date. (OPT expiring 30th June and H1 start date will be Oct 1). there is a 90 days gap and I had already used the 60 days grace period before starting the OPT(which means started OPT 60 days after my graduation date)
So, please let me know in this regard.
