Second AOS Interview

My fiance entered the US on a k-1 visa in November 2002. We were civilly married the next day. In February 2003 we filed the I-485 with the New York district office. On February 7, 2006 we finally had our first Adjustment of Status Interview. No I-551 was issued then and the district adjucation officer(DAO) told us it could take up to 180 days to make a decision. On April 16,2006 we went on vacation within the US for 5 days. When we came back on the afternoon of April 21 there was a letter from the same DAO dated April 14,2006 asking my wife to appear that morning in the New York District Office at 9 AM. She obviously couldn't appear because she didn't know about the request for second interview. No reason was given for the second interview other than she was to bring her passport and I-94 card with her and the interview was related to AOS. Would anyone have any idea what the purpose of this second interview could be? The following Monday morning April 24,2006 I dropped off a letter for that DAO at the New York district office(Luckily my office is one block away from the New York district office) stating that we had been away for 5 days and a copy of our hotel bill. We haven't heard anything since. Any ideas on what is going on and what we should do next?
