Hi All,
Need your experiences and expert opinions!

We have moved to US couple of months back and me and my wife are on H1 and H4 visa respectively. We are Indian Citizens and may return to India after couple of years.

We are expecting a baby early next year. I have gone through various forums and got some useful information about US born baby and US passport for baby and PIO card for India visit/stay.

After considering advantages for baby's birth in USA, we are inclined to have our baby born in US. But at the same time there could be some cons like schooling/education expenses will be much higher if we move back to India in few years.

Unfortunately nobody has shared their real life experience about schooling or any other issues arisen due to their baby is not born in India.

I would appreciate, if someone shares their experiences or give their valuable advice/opinion.

Thanks for your help in advance!

Regards,
Shriram.

Well, if you continue to stay here, you want your kid to be a US citizen. And then even if they study in India, the fee for foreigners there is very affordable for people living in the US.

If you are sure you want to go back to India, I would do the following: I would have the kid here and get it USC and an OCI card. If and when you move back and you decide that USC is working to the child's disadvantge, you can apply for Indian citizenship for the child after a certain number of years as OCI

A couple of things:
1. OP cannot apply for OCI for his minor child unless he or his wife becomes a USC first. OCI rules say that a minor child is ineligible for OCI if both parents are still Indian citizens.
2. If the child was able to get OCI status, he/she would be treated on par with Indian citizens regarding certain aspects of life (domestic airfares, access to national parks) and on par with NRIs regarding quotas, fees, etc at school in India. I'm don't think PIO status affords someone this parity but I may be wrong.
