Scheduling Appointment with Embassy

Hi,
I'm a student in the us. Rather than waiting for my status to be converted, I want to go to the Islamabad Embassy in December and apply for a visa.

How can one schedule an appointment from within the US? The normal procedure (when you're in Pakistan) is to submit your passport, application, etc. Obviously this is not possible for me?

Has anyone else been able to schedule an appointment or conduct some sort of communication with an ebmassy from within the US?

This is VERY urgent! Any suggestions, helpful or otherwise, will be greatly appreciated.

Appointments

Hi,
I reside in the U.S. I was able to make an appointment with a U.S consulate in Chennai, India from here.

I had to get registered on the web site of the Chennai U.S consulate. And in about 2 weeks time I received an email from them stating my appointment date. I am applying for a V1 visa.
