saras76, what materials do I need to bring for FP in Atlanta?

FP docs

allaboutgc,

1. Original FP notice.

2. Form of ID (drivers license and passport). Either one will do but its better to have both.

3. EAD card if you have one.

3. Take copies of the 485 receipt notice. This one is not necessary but just take it with you.

Good luck with your FP.

saras,

Thank you very much. I am in H1 status now so I did not apply for EAD. I will bring my H1 approval notice. Would that be ok? Did the officer specifically ask for EAD?

Again, I appreciate your help!

Our experience

allaboutgc,

When we went to get our FPs done in Atlanta they only asked for one form of ID and we showed them our license. They did not ask for anything else. We had to fill out a form that has details such as name, address, A# etc. We took our passports and our 485 receipts. They did not check any of these. Just make sure your name and address is correct on the FP notice. If it is not then you can show them your 485 receipt that has the correct name and address and they will make the change in their system.

Thanks a lot!!!

So they actually did NOT ask for EAD. Is that correct?

Thanks a lot! I was worried since I do not have EAD.

My address is correct in all the notices/resceipts...

EAD is not neccessary

allaboutgc,

If you are still using your H1B visa then there really is no need for an EAD. An EAD is only for employment if you do not have a valid H1 anymore. You can choose to use your EAD if you want but if you are with the same company that sponsored your H1 then there is no point.

They did not ask for the EAD at the office and will not ask you either. A valid ID is the most important thing along with the FP notice ofcourse.

Do not worry to much, everything will go smoothly.

Saras,

When you did your FP in Atlanta, did they stamp on your FP notice as the proof that you have completed the process? Did they return the stamped FP notice to you or they would keep it?

Thanks a million!

I have had two different experiences with the ATL FP office. When I went to get my FP done they kept my FP notice but gave me another form that I filled out and they stamped, signed and dated and gave it back to me. This form had details such as A#, address, color of eyes etc. This was the proof of FP completion. Now when my wife went for her FP, they stamped her FP notice in the same way and gave it back to her. Either way its important to have a signed and dated document that can be used as proof that the FP was completed. In case something goes wrong and the USCIS claims that the FP was never completed, the dated and signed paperwork can be used to prove otherwise.

This is exactly right that the CIS support center should do.
