I applied for I-485 at the San Jose INS office. I just got the receipt in the mail today. In that they havent mentioned anything about an EAD interview. So what should I do? Can I just show up at the INS office with my recepit and EAD application to get an EAD?

If you have receipt for EAd you may call 1-949-831-8427 and check your application status.

If INS does not approve or deny your EAD application within 90 days you may request an interim EAD document.

No No! I applied for AOS to the San Jose office. Not to CSC. The way it works is that, you apply for AOS and San Jose sends you a recepit notice and an interview time for EAD. I got the receipt notice but it said nothing about the EAD interview. So my question is that, can I just show up at the INS office with my I-485 receipt notice and ask for an EAD.

You must be "a family based" applicant. Otherwise, you can not apply I-485 at local centers.

Did you also apply for EAD ? As far as I know (in employment cases), I-485 does not automatically gives you EAD. You have to apply EAD separately.

Why do you think it should be any interview for EAD? Take a look http://www.immigration.com/processing-times/ca.html and wait in line :(

No No. He is a family based applicant. Those processing times are for applicant who apply directly to regional service centers. Family based applicants applies at local service centers.

Now, the question is : did you apply for EAD ? or just I-485. Why don't you go to INS San Jose and talk to them personally. Most people here on this board knows a lot about Employment based cases but very little about family based...

Got It

I went to the San Jose office today. Got there at 4:30 AM. Got in around 10:30AM. Got out around 2:30PM. Got the EAD. Total time I spent on the counter was around 50 seconds. It was a very straight forward case. I showed my I-485 receipt, and I got the EAD. She didnt look at anything else. If it wasnt for those non-english-speaking Mexicans, things would have gone much faster. They just go to the counter even if their number isnt called! Any who....

Thanks for the advice goodsaint. :)
