wanted to get some insight into salary ranges in India.

How much can one expect to get in Hyderabad, Bangalore, Pune India, if he has 9yrs total (6 yrs in USA) experience?

Depends on your area of expertise and experience. But you should get anywhere from 200000 to 1000000 per year.

My friends with similar varied experience are making about 8 - 10 Lakhs pa.

I read in business week magazine that an average computer engineer earns around $15,000 per annum and a PhD earns $30,000 per annum.
With 9 years of exp if you go towards the PhD salary level you are looking at a little over Rs.1.25 Lakhs per month.
