With a Green Card....
u r completely GREEN,except:
1. U cannot hold *CERTAIN* Govt positions
2. U cannot vote.
3. U can be deported to ur country of citizenship for any crime/illegal activity,etc
Other than that, a GC is very powerful.
U can start claiming unemployment benefits,if u r laid off/fired.
these r things that people like us ,on a visa,contribute to - i.e. Social Security ,etc.

I am ND Oct 2001,and I am hoping I get my GC around Feb 2003.

Dear Jack,
If your ND is Oct.2001 you shoulkd expect your approval anytime now.
Haven't you seen the Sept.2001 RD approvals on rupnet? They all have Oct.2001 NDs.
My RD is 10/30/01 and I'm expecting my approval at the end of November.

thanks for the encouragement..my ND is 16th Oct 2001..but there r tons and tons of Aug 2001 RD people,and I still think the Sep 2001 Rd people were a fluke..and this silly audit halt doesnt help anyone ...
I hope and pray we all get going...looking at some folks (nd 2000,nd april ,etc) I don't know..
and dont forget that in Nov/Dec 2002,everyone in the US goes on vacation - that's the holiday season.
so..I am prepared for the worst,and hope for the best.

One catch is:
How long did you work for your sponsoring employer AFTER getting the GC approval. As GC is for employment AFTER getting the approval, this is an important requirement.
Even after getting your citizenship there are still some "U cannot " things:
1) You cannot be a political contestant for sme positions
2) Naturalized Citizenship can be revoked under certain circumstances
One catch is:

You get GC by showing evidence of your job.
You can have state gov jobs and not federal gov jobs

well buddy..when I talked abt "certain govt" positions,that's exactly what I meant..certain... as in State,etc...I dint want to go into details
as for unemployment..."jagi" is right..all the info I posted ,was a highly abridged form of what I got from the INS web site..
